The “Seersucker Soiree on the Huey,” sponsored by Gretna Economic Development Association (GEDA) was conceived several years ago, but was tabled due to the pandemic. “Spring with Style and Stroll the Huey” on April 9 from 5 until 9 in the p.m. along Huey P. Long, Gretna’s main avenue from 5th Street to the river, on an expected lovely evening.

To get in the spirit of things, pull out your seersucker if you are of that generation, but if not, springtime, pastels or Easter wear will do! Stroll over to the Spring Background Photo Hotspot located in front of City Hall at 2nd Street for family and group pictures. Bonus, a photographer will take a free picture that will be delivered by email!

Filled with southern smells and romantic notions, it’s the perfect spring event that will include things long forgotten like Mint Juleps and Mock Tails, non-alcoholic cocktail-type options that will be found along the route.

“Acoustic musicians, scattered along the Huey will offer entertainment and your palette will be tempted with the sweet smells of popcorn and cotton candy. You might want to try a Pedi-cab ride on the Avenue as you enjoy a snowball,” Kevin Avery with GEDA said.

“$10 Wristbands that will allow for free and/or discounted prices on food and drinks at restaurants and bars along the Huey from 5th Street to the river. Gold’N Creations is open for the Soiree and has a free item to offer.

“Wristbands can be purchased at Memorial Square in front of City Hall at 2nd Street and at the Cultural Center for the Arts at 4th Street,” Avery said.

The city officials are pleased about the Soiree. Mayor Belinda Constant said, “We are so excited about this new event and downtown Gretna is truly the perfect setting to host the Seersucker Soiree! I am so grateful to GEDA for sponsoring the event and want to give a big shout out to Kevin Avery for this wonderful idea and to Summer Cook and the entire committee for making it a reality.”

Headed up by Kevin Avery, the resourceful Soiree Committee includes Gretna Tourism/Events Coordinator Summer Cook, Monica Naquin, co-director of the Gretna Farmers Market and Rene Ferrera with Geda. Jennifer Stansbury, owner of Gold’N Creations and the owners of Stained Glass Wine House, Kyle Gregore and Tasha Davis represent businesses on the committee.

As you stroll along, Gold’N Creations Fine Jewelers, located at 404 Huey P. Long Ave. is a must stop where a wristband gets you free pearl earrings with every purchase!
