Mardi Gras 2022 Kickoff in Gretna

What to do on Wed, Feb 9? Be the King/Queen of Gretna!

Start with a “Stroll along the Huey,” Huey P. Long Ave. that is and enter for

Your chance to be named King/Queen of Gretna’s Mardi Gras!

Register at Gattuso’s from 5:00-7:00 p.m. for a $10 registration fee. You must then purchase a $5 drink/food item at 5 of the 9 participating stops on the Huey to qualify. You will get your crown jeweled at each.

Turn in your fully jeweled crown to Rivershack by 9 p.m. where the winners will be announced.

Participating Locations: Gattuso’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill, Common Grounds Cafe, Gretna Tavern, Gretna Depot, Amore’ Bakery, El Gato Negro, Stained Glass Wine House, Huey P’s Pizzeria, Thanh Thanh Restuarant and River Shack Gretna.

“Bubbles on Parade” : Wed, Feb 9 – 14

Picnic under the purple, green and gold draped oaks along Huey P. Long Ave. between 6th and 10th Streets. Contact the Tourism Office at 504.363.1580 for pricing and availability.

“G-REDI King Cake Social” : Thurs, Feb 10, 5:30 p.m.

Gretna Cultural Center. Sample and vote for your favorite King Cake. $5 admission.

“Parade the Huey” : Fri, Feb 11, 6:00 p.m.

Gretna Krewe of House Floats drive-by viewing on Huey P. Long & neighboring streets. 2022 Theme – Hansel & Gretna: A Grimm Fairytale. Gretna residents are encouraged to participate by decorating their porches/yards in purple, green, & gold & handing out beads to the passing cars. Long median – 10th Street to the river through Mardi Gras.

“Magic Ladle” 8th Annual Soup Cook-off : Sat, Feb 12, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Gretna Farmers’ Market. For $5.00, sample tasty team entries & vote for your favorite. Awards presented at 1:00 p.m. Gretna Market Place, Huey P. Long Ave. between 3rd & 4th Streets.

“Krewe of Kuties Parade” : Sat, Feb 12, 2:00 p.m.

Bring the little ones to this children’s parade that circles Huey P. Long Ave. from 2nd to 10th to 3rd Streets.

“Love Is in the Air Concert” : Sat, Feb 12, 7:00 p.m.

Gretna Cultural Center for the Arts. Glenn Boyd sings Lionel Richie’s greatest love ballads and hits. Tickets available through Eventbrite at www.GretnaCCA.com.

“Valentine’s Day Weddings” : Mon, Feb 14

For Couples in Love and married couples who would enjoy a vow renewal, Gretna Historical Society’s annual Valentine’s Day 2022 Weddings are happening on the most romantic day of the year!

Officiated by Judge Vernon Wilty, aka the “Marrying Judge,” the individual ceremonies are held at the GHS Museum’s Blacksmith Shop, 209 Lafayette St. in the style of weddings in Gretna Green Scotland. To get married in this beautiful setting and have a lasting special anniversary date to celebrate thereafter, call Judge Wilty’s office at 504.364.2760.    

“Grela Celebrates Lundi Gras 2022” : Mon, Feb 28, 6:00 -10:00 p.m.

Gretna Market Place. Bring the family and come “Party on the Huey” at this free annual event. Enjoy music by Chicken on the Bone!
