OK, you’re all rested up from Gretna Fest, a time of good music, good weather and good fun….. Now, my friends, it is time to SHOP!

In conjunction with the Gretna Citywide Yard Sale on Oct. 15, the St. Joseph Restoration Group will hold its annual Rummage Sale after a hiatus for two years due to the pandemic.

Boy, are they back! The 10,000 sq. ft. gym on the corner of 7th and Newton Streets is chock full of treasures for your enjoyment. The generosity of the donors for the annual Rummage Sale was simply amazing.

Thanks to the worker bees, the awesome donations have been beautifully displayed to make it easy for you to shop. Geri Mayville, Rosa Borne, Clara Harrison, Beverly Bolotte, Betty Bradford, Melissa Jones, Emily Gegenheimer, Kim Giglio, Jeanette Allain, Mary Alford, Kathy Danjean, Anita Procido, Katherine Verrette, Angie Jacuillard, Billy Jacuillard and others sorted, cleaned and priced to get ready.

John Kulakowski and Cameron Jones moved furniture and Neal Vaught made the printer and Home Depot runs!

All proceeds from this year’s event will go toward replacing the ratty old rusty chain link fence at the back of the church campus on 7th & Lavoisier Streets. The drive is on to install a wrought iron fence around the old Oak Trees edging the playground and parking lot.

Expect to see a wide variety of items that range from antique furniture to a Ford 150 bed liner, and everything in between. There are sewing machines, beach chairs, lamps, crystals items, Christmas decorations and a countless number of pictures, furniture and home décor.

Stephanie Dieterich, who operates the “Boutique” section for the sale and her assistant, Melissa Jones are ready to offer you a countless amount of Sterling Silver jewelry, as well as costume jewelry, designer

purses, vintage pieces and some rather unusual items.

For your convenience, all major credit cards are accepted, with a 3% fee added to all charges. Minimum charge is $20. Please note that Tote Bags are NOT allowed in the St. Joseph Gym for any of these events.

So this is how it’s happening. The Sneak Peek at St. Joseph’s on Thursday, October 13 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. is your opportunity to shop early for only a $5 entrance fee!

The actual Rummage Sale is on Saturday, October 15 from 8:00 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Gretna Citywide Yard Sale on that day is from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Many people will host yard or garage sales at their homes and many will rent space on the Huey P. Long Avenue neutral ground between 6th and 8th Streets.

Speaking of the neutral ground, the City of Gretna will host Gretna’s Pumpkin Patch on the neutral ground in the 700 block of Huey P. Long Avenue also on Saturday, October 15. Take pictures with your family and buy your pumpkins at the same time, 10:00 a.m. until the pumpkins sell out!

Always something fun happening in Gretna and this coming weekend will be no different. The Friday night FREE concerts at the Amphitheater begin this Friday, October 14 at 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with “Da Rockits.”

On Saturday, October 15, a FREE Movie starts at 6:30 p.m. “Cars” is the first movie of the series.
