It’s a bargain shopper’s dream come true with the City of Gretna hosting the Gretna Citywide Yard Sale on Saturday, October 21 from 8 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There are over 30 residents that have decluttered their homes, or pulled seldom used items from their attics, garages and closets. They will display those items in their garages or on driveways.

Over 60 people have decided to haul their things over to the Huey P. Long Avenue neutral ground where they rented a space to hold their sale.  The neutral ground will be occupied from 6th Street to 9th Street.

At 9th Street Gretna’s Pumpkin Patch will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Stop with the kids to play games, pick out and purchase a pumpkin, then take a fall-themed photo. It’s a win-win! You get to shop and the kids get to enjoy fall and get their pumpkins for Halloween!

In conjunction with the Citywide Sale, the St Joseph Rummage Sale, located at 7th and Newton Streets offers 12,000 sq. ft. of treasures galore! There is everything you can imagine from Singer sewing machines to a teepee! There will be Christmas and other seasonal decorations, jewelry, lamps, kitchenware, a Yamaha piano, various vintage furniture pieces, house décor, golf clubs, beautiful crystal items and even very old desks with inkwells that were once used in the St. Joseph School. This year clothing was added to the list, generous locals donated lots of furniture and prices for all items were slashed in true rummage fashion!

To get ahead of the Saturday Yard Sale crowd, locals are invited to attend the Rummage “Sneak Peek,” open from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19. For an entrance fee of $5, you get to shop early for the very best bargains!

Cash or all major credit cards are accepted for your convenience. No tote bags are allowed into the gym on either the Sneak Peek or for the sale on Saturday.

Before the outstanding shopping experience being offered on Saturday all over incorporated Gretna, on Friday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. the Back to River Fall Concert will feature “Nashville South.” The free concert is held at the Gretna Amphitheater, Huey P. Long Avenue at the river. Good food from the food truck vendors, and beer and wine will be available for purchase.

On Saturday at 6:00 p.m., after the Yard Sale and Rummage Sale shopping,

“Back to the Gretna Drive-in” is presented for a free movie night with the whole family. The movie “Mary Poppins Returns” will start at dusk at the Gretna Amphitheater. Concessions including cotton candy, snowballs, nachos, etc. will be available for purchase as well as food truck fare. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.

This is a carefully planned, busy weekend, and if forecasts can be believed, it’s supposed to be fine weather as well. Bargain shopping plus a free concert and movie, wow, what more could you want? Only in Gretna!
