Hey folks, we were all complaining, but dealt with the high temps we suffered through in July, but holy smoke, August’s forecast doesn’t look much cooler! If you are planning to enjoy a vacation, that’s great! But if you feel stuck inside at home, then start cleaning closets, kitchen cabinets and the garage. Get things done while you are stuck in, and do a good deed at the same time.

St. Joseph Church in Gretna needs your unwanted extras for its annual Rummage Sale to be held on Saturday, October 21 from 8:00 until 3:00 pm.
The Rummage Sale, which is held in the climate controlled 10,000 sq. ft. St. Joseph Gym on the corner of 7th and Newton Streets will be chock full of treasures for your enjoyment. The generosity of the donors for the annual Rummage Sale is always amazing.
Get to shop early and get the best bargains at the Rummage “Sneak Peek” on Thursday, October 19 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. for only a $5 entrance fee!
The event is held in conjunction with the annual Gretna Citywide Yard Sale. Many people will host yard or garage sales at their homes and many will rent space on the Huey P. Long Avenue neutral ground between 6th and 8th Streets. They are taking registrations at this time. For more information about the Gretna Citywide Yard Sale, call Summer Cook at 504.363.1580 or go to www.GretnaLa.com.
All donations besides furniture will be taken for the Rummage Sale starting on Wednesday, September 20 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and each Wednesday and Saturday through Wednesday, October 11. Just deliver your things to the first set of double doors on the Newton Street side of the gym located on 7th and Newton Streets.

Furniture, however, can be taken now by calling Mary Helen Williams at 504.450.8481 for an appointment. Furniture must be delivered to the gym.
Great things to donate are kitchen items, home décor, bedding, sewing machines, lamps, crystals items, Christmas decorations, seasonal decorations, purses and totes, toys, coffee table books only, wreathes and bicycles. No electronics, regular books, wheelchairs or walkers, please.
Note, a big change if you are a donor or shopper! This year clothes will be taken, but must be clean, in style, gently worn, on hangars if possible. Clothes hangers are needed, as well as sturdy clothes racks that can be borrowed.
Stephanie Dieterich, who operates the “Boutique” section for the sale and her assistant, Melissa Jones will be accepting gold and Sterling Silver jewelry, as well as costume jewelry, designer purses, vintage pieces and any unusual items.

Worker bees that will be prepping for the Rummage Sale are all volunteers.
More volunteers are always welcome. Call Linda LaBorde at 504.458.6562 if you would like to help out.
Rummage Sale 2022 was very successful, and all proceeds from last year’s event went toward replacing the ratty old rusty chain link fence at the back of the church campus on 7th and Lavoisier Streets. An impressive new 6 ft. tall solid wrought iron fence and automatic gate now surrounds the old Oak Trees edging the playground and parking lot.
Rummage Sale 2023 will provide money toward replacing the walk-in freezer badly needed for the church’s annual St. Joseph Altar. The replacement is estimated to be $40,000.
